The Global Histories and Sociology Study Group has been renamed, revived, and is seeking new members. Our aims are to provide a forum for sociologists/social scientists who interface with historical research and methods in their research and/or teaching.
This is achieved through a range of activities including:
- Facilitating collaboration and the exchange of ideas by organising conference streams, plenaries and regular meetings.
- Providing a structure for the dissemination of information by establishing online and offline communication platforms such as email lists and a web presence.
- Promoting interdisciplinary dialogue with colleagues in the fields of sociology, history, law, anthropology, media studies, political science, and cultural studies.
Initially, we are establishing a reading group ‘Dialoguing with History’ and would welcome new members who are interested in bridging historical and contemporary perspectives.
Our first event is ‘1885 and its long shadow: sexual offences in historical context’ will be held online on the 11 July 2025.
Please visit our BSA Study Group page for more information and to join our email list.
Convenors: Claire Cunnington (University of Sheffield), Wai Lau (University of Manchester) and Preeti Raghunath (University of Sheffield).
