Within the BSA community, we are still processing the devastating sadness felt by us all at news of Professor Jason Arday’s death.
We knew Jason as a Trustee and as a caring colleague who advocated for kindness and inclusiveness in his role within our Association. In recent weeks, he faced unprecedented media scrutiny and a trial by public opinion. He was subjected to disproportionate scrutiny and hostility that was, in significant part, shaped by racism and ableism.
At this incredibly sad time, our thoughts remain first and foremost with Jason’s family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew and cared for him.
We will remember him with warmth and appreciation for his contributions. His death, and the circumstances of recent weeks, leave much for us all to reflect upon, particularly as a community of sociologists.
